Frugal Fun Friday~ Part Two

Okay, boys and girls, today I am going to show you how to make your very own homemade window cleaner, which I also use on all of my glass and mirrors as well.

Please feel free to just completely ignore me. ;)

I found the recipe for this homemade window cleaner in this great cookbook that you see here in the picture below.

Here is the very simple recipe for the window cleaner.

And here is everything that I used to make this cleaner. I did not have a "formal" gallon container for a cleaner, so I just used one of my old tea jugs, and it worked just fine.

The first step that I did was to add two cups of rubbing alcohol into the empty container.

Then I added 1/2 cup of ammonia.

Next it was time to add the water, but I did not fill it all the way up, because I needed to leave some room for the next ingredient to be added.

Now, it was time to add 1 teaspoon of dish washing liquid, like so.

Then I topped it off with just a little bit more water, just until the container was almost full.

Then I placed the cap back on the gallon container, and I gently shook it to mix all of the ingredients together.

Once all the ingredients were mixed together, it was time to pour them into the spray bottle. I recommend using a funnel to help you fill the spray bottle, because it is just too easy to make a BIG mess if you don't. (Not that that has ever happened to me, but I've heard stories.)

As you can see, I had an empty glass and window cleaner spray bottle, so I just refilled it.

Another little glass and window cleaning tip that I found (although for the life of me I cannot remember where) was to use a paper coffee filter in place of a paper towel when cleaning glass and mirrors. I have done this several times, and it works very well.

Now, if I could just find a recipe to make a "Rosie" robot like the Jetsons had...I would have it made.

Sigh.

Hey thanks! I have seen ways to make it but this one is a little different. I'm making it today! Now when was the last time I washed my windows?

Now this is cool, So this is how it's made. It's so expensive in the store for a bottle of the good stuff.
They say newspaper is also good for this, but I can't stand all that ink on my hands.
Thanks for sharing this!!!
Have a terrific weekend

I made the other cleaner you posted about and I think I will try this one when my glass cleaner runs out. :) Thanks for the frugal tip. Have a wonderful weekend!

Great post, Amy! I have been using a very similar homemade glass cleaner for over 12 years. I used to have my own cleaning business and that is all I ever used.
I'll have to try the coffee filter idea. I have a lot of those. I currently use microfiber cloths from the dollar store.

Good to know this. I got some Fuller cleaning supplies as a gift and I LOVE them. I'm not sure that I will be able to keep paying for them though. I try to use them sparingly knowing how much they cost. I will keep this in mind for when I run out!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love,
Nicole

Oh I just love these tips, I can just see myself trying them all out when we get our own place again. Woo hoo!

This looks like a keeper. So a coffee filter huh, I would ahve to buy filters especially for that, but I will if they work really well.

Oh I have missed visiting you, but I'm back now in blog land, and I'm armed with high speed internet for the first time in my life, watch out, I could be dangerous!

I've never ventured into making my own cleaning products...but you are seriously tempting me to do so. OK, do you really think they work as well as store bought chemicals...there is just something about that toxic smell that makes me feel like I did a good job cleaning.

Thanks for your tips! I'm working hard at becoming frugal.

Hello, my friend.

Thank you for your sweet and encouraging comment on my blog today. It's been a hard day. But it's all ok. Still in His hands.

ABout the window cleaner...I had a homemade recipe that had cornstarch in it that was supposed to keep it from streaking that I used to use...does alcohol keep it from streaking? I'll have to try it!

Your tree looks beautiful (Just read the last post) and those little angel ornaments of your guys are just adorable. Did you make those? Will you do a post on how to? Love them!

Sending love,
Laura

Amy have you been hanging out with Michele (My Blessings Above) again?
I love this recipe cause it doesn't call for vinegar...that's what I use and my house sometimes smells like a casear salad!!

My mom use to make her own cleaner. I don't know if she still does.

What is the advantage of the coffee filter? Less streaks? Less lint? Just curious.

Paula
