There Is No Such Thing As Natural Beauty

If you had been with Melissa and me during our trip to the Mediterranean for even five minutes, you would have heard us quoting a line from the movie Steel Magnolias. (Much like the title of today's blog post.)

We could not help ourselves. It never stopped seeming funny to us. We laughed and laughed, as we quoted and quoted.

Here are just a few of our favorite quotes from the different characters.

Shelby: "Relax! You can't screw up her hair. You just tease it and make it look like a brown football helmet."

Truvy: "Oh, come on Spud! I don't want to miss the Nativity made entirely out of sparklers."

Annelle: "I didn't know if you would hire someone who may or may not be married to someone who might be a dangerous criminal. But Ms. Truvy, I promise you that my personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair."

Ouiser: "I don't see plays, 'cause I can nap at home for free. And I don't see movies 'cause they're trash, and they ain't got nothin' but naked people in 'em! And I don't read books, 'cause if they're any good they're gonna make 'em into a miniseries."

M'Lynn: "Well, I must have missed the passage in Emily Post that says, 'All abuse is heaped on the mother of the bride.'"

Clairee: "Well you know what they say: If you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!"

I could keep going, but if I did, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to stop myself. ;)

What got me to thinking about all of this again was my hair appointment with Melissa this past Wednesday.

Like Truvy, Melissa knows that..."There is no such thing as natural beauty." That's how she makes the big bucks. She helps women improve on whatever hand nature dealt them.

Take me for example. Every eight weeks, or so, she helps make my roots the color that God intended for them to be. ;)

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, "Melissa is a miracle worker!"

I entered the salon looking and feeling like this....

Clairee Belcher: "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize."

Ouiser Boudreaux: [after knocking Clairee off the bench and pulling some of her hair] "Get your roots done!"

But Melissa, got out her wand, waved it around my head three times, while saying, "Bibbity, bobbity, boo!"

And she turned me into to this.....

Ouiser Boudreaux: "My God, you look different. Have you shrunk?"

She makes it look easy, but trust me, it's not!

Melissa has her work cut out for her with clients who need a lot of help like me.

Shelby: "Truvy, you know what you need in here? You need a radio, takes the pressure off of everyone feeling they have to talk so much."

Truvy: "I had one once, but I threw it up against the wall when I couldn't figure out where the batteries went. I know now I was suffering from pre-menstrual syndrome."

Truvy: "There's so much static electricity in this room, I pick up everything but boys and money."

Annelle: "Does your dress have to go over your head?"

As Ms. Truvy says, "It takes a lot of effort to look like this." ;)

Truvy: "Smile! It increases your face value."

Proverbs 31:17
"She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks."

One more thing, I wanted to let you all know about Allie's vet appointment Saturday.
Most of the fluid is gone from her lungs now, enough so, that the vet could finally prescribe her some medicine to help offer her some relief from the pain due to her torn ACL. He said that she will have to continue on the heart medication for the rest of her life. Shannon and I are both so thankful that she can finally get some relief from her pain, and that the heart medication is finally working. Thank you all for your prayers for her.
God Bless,
Amy:)
