"Happy Mother's Day, Mom!"

"A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take." ~Cardinal Mermillod

One day after school, many years ago, I was watching an episode of Little House on the Prairie. I was probably about fifteen or sixteen years old. Anyway, at this particular time in my life, I had to go home with my friend Michelle each day after school and wait there until one of my parents could pick me up.

Michelle had a job after school, so many afternoons, I would wait by myself, and watch television until my parents arrived. I would work on my homework too, of course, but this day that I am telling you about, I was watching Little House on the Prairie.

The episode that I was watching was called "Country Girls," and it was (and still is) my very favorite episode of this show. I also love the episodes which are about Laura and Almanzo (Manly) falling in love.:)

Anyway, as I was watching this episode of Little House on the Prairie, I started sobbing. It made me think of all the sacrifices my mom had made for my brother(John) and me. So I called her at work, and I was bawling! She was afraid something bad had happened to me.......She asked me what was wrong, and I told her (while sobbing) that I was watching Little House on the Prairie, and I wanted her to know how much I loved her.

She still teases me about that to this day, and I still cry every time I see this episode. I found this clip from "Country Girls" on You Tube. I especially love the part where Laura reads her essay to the whole crowd of students and parents, and Ma and Pa's faces speak a thousand words of love.

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother." ~Abraham Lincoln

A little girl, asked where her home was, replied, "where mother is." ~Keith L. Brooks

"Grown don't mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? What's that suppose to mean? In my heart it don't mean a thing." ~Toni Morrison

"There's nothing like a mama-hug." ~Adabella Radici

Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I love you!
Thank you for always loving me.:)

"Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

Thank you my angel!!!!! That was so very sweet - in my head before I even started reading, I was thinking of Abraham Lincoln's saying that "All I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my Angel Mother." I have always loved that because in my case, it is so very true. I miss my precious Momma every day of my life! I love you more than life itself and am going to miss you so much these next few weeks. You are my best friend as well as my precious daughter. I LOVE YOU!!!!! Mom :)

Aaahhhh...a fellow Little House fan. Chris and I used to watch Little House right before bed until they moved it to another time. I think I've watched every episode three times. I've yet to see one that I've never seen. I too love this episode and also the episode of Laura grown up. I don't especially care for the ones that have Ma and Pa removed from it but till like them all. I'm glad Nellie grew up and out of her meanness once she married. You can see Ma is honored but very humbled by Laura's "essay". I love the grace Ms. Beattle offered to Laura. Precious indeed.
I wish you a very Happy Mother's Day, Amy!

Best seven minutes of tv this day...actually my only seven minutes of tv today! I grew up on huge doses of Little House. When I taught 3rd grade, there was a girl in my class who I'm sure was related to Nellie. She earned the nickname early on and remained "Nellie" throughout the year. (She had absolutely no idea why I nicknamed her that...probably worth a few therapy sessions when she gets older.)

Mothers are a treasure. Thanks for sharing yours with us. And don't worry about those youngins when you leave. You will miss them like crazy (trust me on this one), but they will be fine and will be expecting some great surprises from your trip abroad!

Happy Mother's Day Amy!
This is such a sweet post.
I'm just now getting caught up on everyone's blogs tonight and it's almost 11:00 p.m. and past my bedtime, but I wanted to comment.
This is a very sweet episode of Little House on the Prairie.
My mom was the same way. She always put us girls first.
Thanks for yet another great post.
Love,
Valerie
